ryan hates this comic because it shows a poor work ethic in dale. HA.
Kevin Minor, the great guy who colored the first collected volume of gronk, has all the files for the SECOND volume in his hands and he’s already working on it. the second book is in the works and will be ready by san diego comic con!
wondering right now if i should do what i did last time (which was take pre-orders to pay for the immense printing bill) or do a kickstarter and offer up some fun rewards this time. thoughts? ideas for rewards?

Huzzah! New comic! And unless I’m forgetting something MLP makes its debut in a Gronk comic. Wonder who their favorite ponies are…
I think you’d have NO PROBLEM getting funds to print vol. 2 using a Kickstarter (and then some). That gets my vote. 🙂
Do both.
People love an option. Plus, kickstarter may help you find new readers that are not familiar with your audience. Those who just want a copy can pre-order it, and those that want swanky stuff can use the kickstarter.
Whatever kickstarter rewards you pick, just make sure it won’t inflate your shipping costs. I’d go with signed and numbered limited prints… Give number 1 to the top donator and then go down the line. Also a Gronk calendar would be cool.
Ponies always take priority!
Nothing wrong with Dale’s work ethic. It is the work ethic of Mother’s everywhere. Happy Mother’s Day. G is a lucky kid.
KICKSTARTER! KICKSTARTER! I would have tossed more money at you when I met you at C2E2, but it may have looked inappropriate, also Mochi and Nori love their tiny portrait, which is to say that everyone who loves Mochi and Nori love their portrait!
Um, I get the suggestion to do both, though I will point out that you don’t get Kickstarter funds if you don’t raise the whole goal amount. Having a straight up pre-order elsewhere might detract from raising that full amount. Especially when one of the Kickstarter rewards can just be a copy of the book for the amount you would have charged for the pre-order. That’s just my two cents on that. Honestly, whichever way you go, I will be purchasing my copy (and any extra goodies you offer) as soon as the order/pledge button goes up…
Also, yay ponies! Does Gronk have all of them by now? :o)
I’m not familiar with this whole kickstarter thing so I’ll just say that the pre-order for the 1st volume worked just fine for me. And I love the little sketch card inside!
KICKSTARTER with rad rewards is the way to go. Huge exposure for the site as well.
Ponies first, then commerce.
I love kickstarter. Also, if you do kickstarter, you should have one of the levels be both volumes as I haven’t bought the first one yet and there is something thrilling about Kickstarter that would probably kick me into gear and bet me to buy both. Plus little commissions. Oh man, I am excited for that level – both books and a small commission. 8| Plus it is cool to see the crazy push rewards people offer when they start hitting their goals. Like Jake Parker has been doing for ‘Antler Boy and other stories.’
If you do Kickstarter stuff, don’t they/Amazon take a portion of the money, when it’s all said and done? That plus the time/money it’d take to generate the rewards might make it less beneficial than straight-up preorders. Then again, I would like to see the rewards for a Gronk Kickstarter…
Also, as a big-time Fluttershy booster, I’m unreasonably pleased to see Gronk carrying her toy around.
Kickstarter! I think you could ask for the full amount to print with a bit extra of prizes/preorders check out this book and the way they approached it I think this could work really well for you

I don’t know if you know Rich Burlew (the guy who does Order of the Stick) but he did a Kickstarter project to help fund reprints of one of his books. You could ask him about the details and whether it’s worth any hassle
Also Dale may not have a great work ethic but she sure has a great parenting one
I have a question: “Have you ever heard of Beat Circus?”
Their song entitled “Boy from Black Mountain” would fit Gronk fairly well, in my own mind’s eye.
This is how I feel when I do freelance work.
I think you should do a Kickstarter. My family and I are almost finished doing our own Kick Starter for our farm. We are funded and it was a great publicity boost. We have one day left on our project.
My recommendations would be to work for a while on putting together a good Kickstarter page. After you put it up, talk about it everywhere! Send articles to your newspaper, tweet post and just blitz it. Ask your fellow cartoonists to post about it. Get the word out. It will also be a big boost for your comic. Study what the Order Of The Stick comic did also.

Also, Gronk made a cameo on our updates page, look carefully.

We also have a short URL: http://smf.me which gets you there and is easier to use.
I actualy think Dale has the right priorities. 🙂
LOL! The Order of the Stick guy ended up making like a million dollars, and offering so many extra bonus levels that he ran out of them, so I think he’d be pretty positive about it.
And I agree that Dale’s priorities and work ethic are correct here. Sheesh!
PONIES!!!!!
I drew a fluttershy on my note pad at work in a way of ‘coming out’ as a brony. no one recognized her. 🙁
